Picker Extension Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

Layro Picker is the browser extension of Layro, a web app for producing videos, operated by LLC "Layers" (ТОВ "Лейерс"). This policy covers the extension only. Your Layro account and the projects you keep in it are covered by the Layro Privacy Policy.

1. What the extension does

Layro Picker connects the Layro web app to the browser tab you are looking at. While you work on a project in Layro, you open its Picker, find the right source for a scene on the web and press Capture (or Alt+Q). The extension tells your Layro tab the address of that page — or, for a scene about a page itself, such as a headline or a document, hands it a screenshot of what is on screen — and Layro saves it to that scene of your project.

Before it reads anything, the extension asks. The first time you open the Picker, it shows what the extension reads, when, and where it goes, and the extension reads nothing until you press Allow there. The same question is in the extension’s own popup (the Layro Picker icon in the browser toolbar), where you can also turn it off at any time.

The extension has no server and keeps nothing of its own beyond the two settings on your device listed in section 2. Apart from showing the Layro web app in Chrome’s side panel when you open the Picker there, it makes no network requests: it only answers the Layro tab you have open.

2. What data it handles

  • The address (URL) of the tab you are browsing. While the Picker is open in Layro, the extension tells your Layro tab which page is in front of you, every couple of seconds, so the Picker can show the capture button that fits that page. The address is saved to your project only when you capture. Layro’s own tabs are never treated as a source.
  • The playback position of a YouTube video. When you capture a YouTube video page, the extension reads the second the video is playing at and adds it to the link (the t and t_ms parameters), so the scene points at that moment. Only the position is read — the video itself is never read, recorded or copied.
  • A screenshot of the visible part of the tab — only when you capture for a scene that needs a picture of the page: with Alt+Q pressed on that page, or with the Capture button in Layro after you have enabled screenshot capture (see section 5). It is a single still image of what is on screen at that moment, so it shows whatever the tab shows, text included. The extension hands it to your Layro tab, which adds it to your project.
  • The type of the page. With screenshot capture enabled, and on YouTube, the extension also reads whether the tab shows a web page or an image file (the browser’s document.contentType), so the Picker offers a screenshot or the address. Nothing else on the page is read.
  • Your answer. That you allowed the extension to read, and when, is kept in Chrome’s storage on your device so it does not ask again. Turning it off erases it.
  • Where the Picker is. Which scene the Picker is on in each project, and which project the side panel shows, are kept in Chrome’s session storage on your device and cleared when the browser closes.

3. Where the data goes

Only to the Layro web app tab you have open (layro.ai or app.layro.ai), which saves what you capture to the project you are working in — like anything else you add to a Layro project. From there it is stored and handled under the Layro Privacy Policy. Nothing is sent to third parties, analytics services or advertisers.

4. What it does not do

  • It does not collect your browsing history or watch tabs in the background — it reads the address of the page in front of you only while the Picker is open in Layro, and only after you allowed it.
  • It does not read page text, form fields, passwords or cookies.
  • It does not record tabs, the screen, audio or video, and it does not capture media streams.
  • It does not download video, audio or any other files. In Layro, a YouTube moment you capture stays a link to YouTube and plays in YouTube’s own embedded player.
  • It has no analytics, tracking or advertising of any kind.
  • It does not sell, rent or share your data.

Layro Picker’s use of this information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

5. Permissions and why each is needed

  • tabs — to find the tab you are browsing and read its address, and to find your open Layro tabs so the Picker connects to them and the side panel shows the right project.
  • scripting — to read the playback position of a YouTube video when you capture it; to read whether a page is a web page or an image (with screenshot capture enabled, and on YouTube); and to connect to Layro tabs that were already open when the extension was installed or updated, so you do not have to reload them.
  • activeTab — so that Alt+Q, pressed on a page, can take a screenshot of that page without any wider access.
  • sidePanel — to let you open the Picker in Chrome’s side panel instead of a floating window.
  • storage — to remember your answer to its question (on your device, until you turn it off) and, for the current browser session only, which scene the Picker is on and which project the side panel shows.
  • Access to youtube.com — to read the playback position of the video at the moment you capture. Nothing else is read on YouTube.
  • Access to layro.ai and app.layro.ai — the two addresses of the Layro web app, where the extension connects to it. It runs on no other site.
  • Optional access to all websites — not requested at install. Chrome asks for it only when you click “Enable screenshot capture” in the extension’s popup. It lets the Picker take a screenshot of the tab you are browsing when you press Capture in Layro (a click in Layro does not count as a click on that tab), and read whether that tab is a web page or an image. You can withdraw it at any time in chrome://extensions → Layro Picker → Details → Site access.
  • Keyboard shortcut Alt+Q (not a permission) — captures the page in front of you into the scene the Picker is on. You can change it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

6. Your choices

The extension reads nothing until you press Allow in the Picker or in its popup, and nothing from the pages you browse until you open the Picker in a Layro project. To stop it, click the Layro Picker icon in the toolbar and choose Turn off, or remove the extension in chrome://extensions. To delete something you captured, remove it from your project in Layro. Layro keeps a record of where each file in a project came from, and your rights over your account data are described in the Layro Privacy Policy.

7. Changes to this policy

If the extension starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date at the top, and the extension will ask for your OK again before it reads anything in the new way.
